These are small, between 2 and 6 cm in diameter. The cuticle is not very fleshy and is hazelnut or coffee coloured with a darker centre, especially in mature specimens. Its flavour is pleasantly sweet, with gentle hints of almonds or hay. It is versatile, combining very well with a variety of dishes, such as stews, pasta, rice, scrambled eggs and preserves.
